I’m an East Coast U.S.-dwelling 30-something, dedicated to language and cross- and intercultural communication.
I read and understand German, can read children’s fiction in Spanish, could flail along in French, and might, if I tried very hard and met sympathetic, patient people, manage to find food and not die in Japanese and Irish. Language learning keeps me centered in a fast-moving, much-demanding world.
I’m currently translating short fiction by German author Karla Schmidt. Schmidt’s work has been nominated and placed for German-language speculative fiction prizes including the Kurd Laßwitz Preis, Deutscher Science Fiction Preis, and Deutscher Phantastik Preis, and I highly recommend you read her short novel Lügenvögel, if you read German. She’s a fantastic human being, and I’m honored to be working with her.
I hope to translate more German-language speculative fiction in future.
